Club Connections: What’s Happening on Campus
by Ned Lewis
It’s easy to feel isolated on a college campus. Whether you’re a freshman, a transfer student, a commuter, or just busy, it can be difficult to meet people you enjoy spending time with. You’d like to hang out and have some fun with other students when you have the time, but that’s kind of hard when you don’t really know anybody. If this sounds like you, then you might want to consider joining one of our school’s many clubs.
It doesn’t really matter what you’re in to, there’s probably already a club on campus that specializes in your interests. There are a number of clubs which are organized around different majors, for example, the history club, the math club, and the criminal justice club. If you’re an animal person, there’s an animal lovers club. If you’d like to hone you’re Spanish skills, join the Spanish club. Do you like to bowl? Yes there’s a club for that too. Whatever it is you’re sure to find it here.
Interested yet but don’t know how to get involved? Try attending a club sponsored event. Nerdfighters is sponsoring an Anime night on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. in the chapel. If you enjoy music, consider attending the Broadway Battles Breast Cancer event sponsored by PAS and PPO, which will be Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in the chapel.
Al Thiel, Director of Student Activities and advisor to the Student Activities Board, puts out a monthly event calendar to let students know what is happening on campus. These calendars are posted around campus, slid under doors in the residence halls, and are distributed to students via e-mail.
“We’ll be offering system app called Corq to students soon,” Thiel said. “This app will allow you to keep up to date with upcoming events and activities on campus.”
There isn’t a specific release date yet for the app, but Thiel expects it to be ready sometime in the next few weeks.
