Students interested in completing their minor in film studies have a new course to choose from beginning in Fall 2023.

“Screenwriting & Narrative” (31925/0560), offered through the Creative and Professional Writing Program on Mondays from 6-8:30 p.m., joins “Music and Film” (30906/0896, Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30 p.m.) on the roster of choices film studies students can choose from this fall.

“We are planning to offer more film courses next academic year as faculty will be returning from their sabbatical leaves. We also hope to have hired new faculty,” Dr. John Prellwitz, associate professor of communication and humanities division chair, said.

Students need to take five courses to complete a Film Studies minor. Students can take one or two courses a year across five to seven majors and programs.

“I would encourage any students interested in film courses to speak to their advisors and professors for suggestions and assistance in ensuring that they are making progress to complete their plans for the minor,” Prellwitz said.

The humanities division is working on developing even more film courses that will be offered over the next few years.

“We recently hired five new full-time humanities division faculty. They are all in their first year and are already making fantastic contributions (in that area),” Prellwitz said. “I look forward to continuing ways in which these newly added colleagues will enrich course offerings and learning opportunities for our students. I look forward to working with any students interested in pursuing a Film Studies minor and enriching learning opportunities for them.”
