A special holiday is coming up, Valentine’s Day. It’s one that most people dread, I used to as well. It can be a reminder of how single people don’t have anyone to celebrate with. It can also be a pain for people in relationships because they may need to spend a good amount of money on their partners. Even though this is what Valentine’s Day has been known for in past years, I personally think the way it’s celebrated in this era has changed.

Valentine’s Day has become my favorite holiday in the past couple years. I see it more than a day for couples and love. I admire the aesthetic of the cute decorations that are put out in stores. The colors that are associated with the holiday are some of my favorite colors. I enjoy eating delicious candy and looking at beautiful flowers. In my eyes, Valentine’s Day is a day for treating myself and showing appreciation for my friends. I think other people, including couples are starting to notice this as well.

My friends who are in relationships have told me that they spend less money on gifts and make their own. They go on nice dates, but nothing outrageous. My friends who are single celebrate each other in some way whether it’s just spending time together or going out and doing something together, they find ways to have fun. It’s a great way to prove how Valentine’s Day is not just a holiday for couples, it can be celebrated by anyone.

Something to do on this day is to go out and get a sweet treat. Go to a local bakery and get something good to munch on. Another option is to head to Dunkin Donuts and get a heart-shaped donut or a Valentine’s Day themed coffee. Even though Starbucks doesn’t have a Valentine’s Day menu, there can be ways to create special drinks to celebrate the holiday. Buy candy or flowers. Even if they’re for yourself or for someone else, they liven up any space. Go get your nails done or buy yourself something nice, you deserve it.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be rotten. There’s at least one good way to celebrate yourself, friends, or your partner on this day, make it count. Don’t forget to treat yourself in some way and show appreciation for people you love in your life. Happy Valentine’s Day Pitt-Greensburg.
