Listen Your Heart Out: I’ve Got a Secret!

by Madison Jarnot

If you’ve spoken to me more than once, you probably know that I stan Dr. Phil.

I haven’t missed an episode in five years–I always record them on my DVR–I listen to both of his podcasts, and I follow all of his social media. Look, everyone needs a guilty pleasure, and Dr. Phil will be mine until the day I die.

Dr. Phil’s wife, Robin McGraw, recently launched her own podcast. Robin is in every episode of Dr. Phil, as he walks her offstage at the end of every taping–cute, right?. I was excited for her podcast because of I knew it would be a side of Robin that viewers don’t get to see.

Robin features female guests in each episode who share their “secrets” to life, love, and happiness, all of which are centered around empowering a female audience.

Her podcast differs from others in that it isn’t a formal, interview-style show. Although she does ask her guests questions about themselves, the tone of each podcast is conversational.

My favorite thing about “I’ve Got a Secret!” is definitely the casual format. It makes you feel like you’re listening in on a few girlfriends hanging out. Everyone tells stories, cracks jokes, and plays card games over a few drinks. What’s not to love?

The best episode so far is the second one, where Robin sits down with model / artist Koreen Odiney and comedian / actress Becky Robinson to discuss being vulnerable and authentic while in the public eye.

I am all for women encouraging other women to be honest, emotional, and unapologetic about their emotions and lived experiences.

Not surprisingly, I give “I’ve Got a Secret!” five stars. You should go listen to the latest episode right now.
