Main Street Sweets Tantalizes Greensburg’s Taste Buds
by Dylan Leonard

Main Street Sweets has become a popular destination in downtown Greensburg for its wide variety of sweet treats since its grand opening in May. The shop is owned and operated by locals Nicole and Greg Nickischer.
Located directly across from the courthouse at 41 N. Main St., the pink signage is hard to miss.

“It’s in the heart of downtown Greensburg,” Nicole said.
Among the products offered are an array of nostalgic candies, and newer, creative products, including some that are viral sensations.
“We want this to be a place that you can find anything,” Nicole said.
For more adventurous candy enthusiasts, the store carries Hotlix lollipops, which contain real insects inside.

Staying true to Pennsylvania, the store carries a range of glass-bottled soda from Reading Soda Works, made with real sugar in its namesake city. Citrus Twist and its pale pink color complement the walls of the same shade inside.
Perhaps the most well-known options are the store’s gourmet milkshakes, using ice cream from Kerber’s Dairy in nearby North Huntingdon. According to Nickischer, the most popular offering is their Dirt and Worms shake, which features crushed Oreos, gummy worms, and chocolate. Others include the Salty Sailor with pretzels, a Twix bar, and caramel puffs, Deep Dish Apple Pie, and the Lucky Charms-inspired Magically Delicious shake.
Of all the shop’s offerings, Nicole’s favorite is the Breakfast in Bed shake, made with coffee ice cream, mocha chips, chocolate covered espresso beans, Honey Nut Cheerios, and topped with a powdered donut.
In the coming months, the business plans to create holiday gifts and a line of gourmet hot chocolate. To keep up with Main Street Sweets’ products, visit their Facebook page or follow them on Instagram.
