Pitt-Greensburg Basketball: Then and Now

by Nicholas Morozowich

The men’s and women’s basketball teams may not be seeing any action right now, but that should change at the start of next month. The first men’s basketball game will occur on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., where the team will face off against Washington and Jefferson College’s team. The first women’s basketball game will occur on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m., where the team will face off against Thiel College’s team.

“We were a very young team last year,” Head Coach Brody Jackson of the men’s basketball team said. He stated that the team “had one senior, and the rest were freshman or sophomores” last year. It was also Coach Jackson’s first year as head coach. In the 2017-2018 basketball season, the men’s team went 7-17, scoring a total of 1,629 points.

“I’m really excited about the opportunities we have this year,” Head Coach Hayley Schaetzle of the women’s basketball team remarked concerning both returning and new players: “We are at about a fifty percent split.” In the 2017-2018 basketball season, the women’s team went 7-18, scoring a total of 1,417 points.

On a more personal note, Head Coach Schaetzle said that the reason she got into basketball was that “[she] loved the team aspect of basketball,” and the group aspects “makes all the wins feel all the sweeter when you get the job done.”

As for Head Coach Jackson, his interest was “a natural fit” due to the competitiveness and his family upbringing. “… I enjoy what I do, and that’s what makes it fun and that’s why I do it.”
