For The Love of Chocolate: Pitt-Greensburg Students Rate Chocolate and Share Valentine’s Messages
by Addi Patrick
The Insider hosted a chocolate taste test on Feb. 10 where students tried different brands of chocolate and rated them. Students were encouraged to write a Valentine’s message on the Valentine message board. The message board is displayed on the front desk in Chambers Hall.
As students tried the chocolates, they were told to think of anything related to love to add to the board. Many students decided to share uplifting words.
Dashaun Raines, sophomore management and marketing major said, “You are phenomenal and loved by many.”
The chocolate that was most-loved was Kinder Bueno. It was tasted by 13 students and scored either first or second place in 11 of the votes, with eight of those votes being for first place.
Not all chocolates were as loved as Kinder Bueno. Hershey faced a battle between love and hate.
Hershey was the most controversial chocolate. Eighteen people tried Hershey, and many felt strongly about Hershey Kisses and Hershey Nuggets. Two people wrote that Hershey is “the best,” and one wrote “Hershey is trash.” Six people tried both Hershey Kisses and Hershey Nuggets, and there was an even split between which was better. Hershey received six first-place votes, three fourth-place votes, and seven votes for third place.
After telling us which chocolates he loves, one student shared his thoughts on love and hate.
“Love is stronger than hate,” Cody Richmond, freshman communication major wrote.
Other chocolates were not as divisive and had an even array of votes.
Ghirardelli had a pretty even split of votes. It received six votes for first place and six votes for third place. Ferrero Rocher and Godiva both scored in the middle on average, with most of their votes sitting around second and third place.
Not many students decided to branch out and try the strawberry Dubai chocolate. It was only tried by two students and was voted last by both.
Jack Norris, junior biology major, along with the message he left on the board, decided to draw a picture with his message.
Norris wrote, “ Mr. Bush is having a green Valentine’s Day.”

If you are trying to decide what chocolate to buy for your love this Valentine’s Day, Kinder Bueno, Ghirardelli, Ferrero Rocher, and Godiva are safe options. Beware if you buy Hershey, because it could be a controversial choice.
