It’s a scary and uncertain time. It’s easy to feel helpless when so many bad things are happening in the world. Young people often ask themselves, “What can I do?”

Here are some resources you can use to have your voice heard and to help your communities

5calls:

5calls makes contacting your representatives easy and painless. Enter your zip code, and the website will provide you with all of your state’s reps and their phone numbers. They provide scripts you can read off for a large list of issues affecting Americans. Just insert your name, your city and zip code, and your rep’s name into the premade script and read off of it when you make the call. If leaving a voicemail, leave your street address to make sure your call is tallied. This is an easy and simple way you can voice your opinions on issues you care about.

The Students for a Democratic Society Club is also hosting a “Know Your Rights” training on Thursday, February 26 at 4 p.m. This training will inform students on what to do in the event that you encounter ICE. They will also be hosting a poster-making workshop in March in preparation for the No Kings protest.

Get involved in local community events:

There are dozens of local community events that you can participate in to help out your local and global communities.

Pitt-Greensburg’s Relay for Life takes place on Friday, April 10, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Chambers Hall Gym. Relay for Life supports the American Cancer Society’s research and programs for cancer patients and survivors.

Donate to your local food banks or to one of the many little food pantries around Greensburg, including ones right here at Pitt-Greensburg.

Even something as small as donating a can of food to a little food pantry can genuinely make a difference. If you are feeling frustrated, tired, and helpless with the world, then try one of these simple acts of service.
