Pitt-Greensburg Art Show Sept. 29-Oct.10 Kicks Off Blue and Gold Celebration

by Shannon Grace

From Monday, Sept. 29, through Friday, Oct. 10, the Millstein Library will host the ninth annual Pitt-Greensburg Blue and Gold Celebration Art Show. Students can submit their work in two categories: General for $5 per piece and Judged for $10 per piece.

Participants can submit unlimited pieces to the General category and up to five pieces in the Judged category. All pieces must be two-dimensional, made within the last five years, and equipped for hanging.

Winners of the General category will get a Pitt spirit bag and a gift card, and winners in each category of the Judged section will get a certificate, and first-place winners will also receive a gift card.

Julia Sefcheck, alumni engagement officer, is excited to see what the local artistic community will offer.

“The art show is a way to engage our artistic students, alumni, and just the community,” Sefcheck said. “The youngest artist (we’ve ever gotten) was five, and my oldest artist was over 90. We get people of all different ages, all different skill levels, and it’s just nice that they are happy to support the campus, and they’re happy to show their art. It’s just a nice opportunity for people.”

Shelia Kudrick, constituent relationship manager at Pitt-Greensburg and founder of the event, said the show first began with a small student art display in Smith Hall, then grew from there.

“Greensburg has an active cultural scene. By bringing together the works of current students, staff, faculty, and alumni with the local artists, we hoped to build connections and strengthen the sense of community,” Kudrick said. “Strong community ties provide a vital support network for the students and the campus.”

The deadline to register is Wednesday, Sept. 17. Participants can drop off their works Thursday, Sept. 18 through Friday, Sept. 19 and Monday, Sept. 22 through Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Millstein 201. The show will open on Monday, Sept. 29, and there will be a reception and awards ceremony on Friday Oct. 3 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“I encourage everyone to come to the artist reception,” said Sefcheck. “It’s a really nice event. eople can come meet the artists, they can see who takes home the prizes. It’s just a nice night on campus.”
