Stream Your Heart Out: Awakened

by Shirley Petropoulos

“Awakened” by James S. Murray with Darren Wearmouth is a science fiction novel that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Murray is well-known for being on the TV show “Impractical Jokers” and this is his first novel. “Awakened” will be a trilogy with the next two books set to be released in June of 2018 and 2019.

This novel follows Mayor Cafferty and the tragedy that happened when the new Z-train appeared in the Pavilion but was empty of passengers. The entire train was covered in blood.

On the train was the Mayor’s wife and other lucky New York passengers. At first everyone thinks that it is a terrorist attack but what really had happened is much scarier.

This novel is full of suspense and turns that the reader does not expect to happen. Murray and Wearmouth find ways to keep the readers engaged into what they are reading, but they also make it so suspenseful that sometimes the reader feels as though they are in the novel themselves. At one point, I wanted to stop reading because it got so scary but I could not put the book down long enough because I was so engaged in it.

When you read this novel, you are always hoping that your favorite character does not get killed off and you are always wondering what will happened to the characters that do survive. Murray and Wearmouth find ways to make it possible for the reader to keep reading no matter how scary the novel becomes.

If you are a person that loves thrillers then this is the novel for you. I for one am looking forward to the next novel, “The Brink”, to come out in June to find out what happens to the other characters that survived “Awakened.”
