Blue and Gold Week
by Ali Dimoff
This year Pitt-Greensburg is jazzing up Homecoming week by changing some old events and adding some new ones.
One of the biggest changes involves the homecoming dance – there is not going to be a traditional dance this year. Al Thiel Director of Student Activities commented on the change.
“The change is not because the dance was bad. It’s because we wanted to do something different this year,” Thiel said. “A DJ will be there so dancing can still happen though.”
The dance portion – where the King and Queen will be crowned – will begin at 10 p.m., and follows the free Casino Night which starts at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1. Thiel also explained how not having an official Homecoming dance benefits students.
“The money from the dance will be added to the Spring Fling budget. It’s simply being redirected,” he said.
A new event has also been added this year: a UV Color Run will take place on campus at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 30. Early registration ended Sept. 9, but students can still register up until the event. For more information go to www.PittNightColorRun.com. Thiel invited those of any skill level to participate.
“This is a non-competitive 5k, we urge everyone to get out and run, or at least cheer on those participating. Family are welcome and pets on leashes can come too,” he said.
There will be a DJ and food trucks after the Color Run.
Although some events have changed, the festival Saturday, Oct. 1, will remain the same. Saturday’s events: free pancakes for anyone from 11:30 to 1 p.m., the Car Cruise, Blue and Gold carnival, mini-golf, and horse drawn campus rides (noon to 3 p.m.).
