Have We Forgotten About Saint Patrick?
by Maria Yokopenic
All over the country, people are preparing for what they think could be one of the greatest nights ever: Saint Patrick’s Day. A time to get all dolled up in shamrocks and beads, go out with friends and paint the town… green. Sounds like fun until the next day when you’re in bed with a pounding headache regretting every decision you made the night before.
Have we forgotten that Saint Patrick was a real man, recognized as the patron saint of Ireland? He worked endlessly to convert many people from Pagan Irish to Christianity, explaining the Holy Trinity through the leaves of the shamrock.
Saint Patrick’s Day is recognized as a Roman Catholic holiday, and yes some of the Lenten restrictions are lifted on this day, like alcohol consumption. Though haven’t we taken it just a little too far? Most people celebrate this day without the understanding of why it’s a holiday in the first place.
Irish You A Happy St. Patrick’s Day
by Jenna Aleski
St. Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, has always been a day where Irish heritage flows through people worldwide. It’s a day when everyone gets to be Irish, consuming a lot of green food and alcohol.
A lot of people don’t know Pittsburgh’s St. Patty’s day parade has been said to be one of the best. If you’re feeling festive this year, go green from your “Kiss Me, I’m Irish” shirt to a kilt if you’re willing to go all out. Have fun and may the luck of the Irish be with you.
