Starting next semester, articles published on The Insider’s website will be put behind paywalls. To have unrestricted access to The Insider, users must subscribe to The Insider’s monthly subscription service, with prices set at $67 per month.

Editor-in-Chief Ali Brown says the change was a necessary one.

“We needed money somehow,” says Brown. “Who doesn’t have 67 bucks to spend?”

Students and faculty are in full support of the decision. Professor X, associate professor of economics, is the subscription service’s number one advocate.

“It’s always good for news to be made inaccessible,” says Professor X. “You want to know about election results and what new wars our president is starting for free? That’s just greedy.”

The decision to paywall articles was inspired by models from major news organizations such as The New York Times and The Washington Post.

“If they can do it, so can we,” Brown says.

However, if readers wish to read articles without paying for a subscription, the subscription price is waived for those who join The Insider staff for the Fall semester.

“Paywalls are a necessary evil,” Professor X says. “If you want timely, accurate reportage for free, too bad. Give us your money.”
