[OUTSIDER] Dragons Are Real: Komodo Dragon Found on Pitt-Greensburg Campus
by Addi Patrick
Pitt-Greensburg campus police found a Komodo Dragon in the Chambers parking lot on the evening of March 30. The reptile is currently being housed in the police station and is in good hands.
The Komodo Dragon was found with a pink collar and name tag with “Mrs. Kipling” engraved on it. Campus police believe that this animal is a pet of a student on campus. While a Komodo Dragon is not an approved pet on campus, police ask that the owner come forward, so next steps can be discussed.
Police Chief Jessie Prescott, said, “We understand the owner of this pet may be hesitant to come forward due to potential consequences, but we are willing to work with the student as we feel this animal is not a threat to our campus.”
Officer Emma Ross was doing her nightly rounds when she came across the reptile. She said she didn’t know what it was, so she got out of her vehicle to inspect. When she noticed the collar, she began to approach the animal, and it was very friendly to her.
Ross said, “I was a little scared at first because I didn’t know what the thing was, but it came right up to me and licked my hand. I know she isn’t a typical pet, but I think she would be a great addition to our campus.”
Campus police ask that any student who has any information regarding the Komodo Dragon report it at the campus station.
