Prost! Phi Eta Sigma to Celebrate Oktoberfest this Thursday
by Alissa Brown
Get ready to hoist your (root) beer steins. Phi Eta Sigma is putting on its annual Oktoberfest celebration this Thursday, Oct. 16 on Chambers Lawn from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Oktoberfest will host free food and drink from Chartwells, including bratwursts, strudels, and Phi Eta Sigma’s signature root beer floats that come straight from the keg. Oktoberfest-themed games such as Hammerschlagen—a nail hammering game—and potato sack racing will be available to all students.
Zoe Elston, Phi Eta Sigma president and senior management major, says, “I like that it connects the campus community. It’s cool that everyone gets to take part in it.”
If the weather does not permit, the event’s rain date is the following Thursday, Oct. 23 on Chambers Lawn.
Co-sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Activities Board (SAB), Oktoberfest is an annual event on campus that has quickly become a campus staple. Thirteen clubs across campus are currently signed up to have a table at the event.
Oktoberfest is an event that aims to bring together students of all types so that they can enjoy a taste of German culture.
“I think it’s good to have different cultural events on campus,” Elston says. “It’s good to explore different cultures that we’re not used to seeing every day.”
