From April through December, the Greensburg Night Market draws over 500 vendors on the last Thursday of each month from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. to foster a sense of community and celebrate the best the area has to offer.

Launched in 2019, the market now spans four city blocks and a parking lot, and is sponsored by multiple companies like “Live Casino” and “Shop ‘n Save.”

Jessica Hickey, whose advertising agency The Downtown Greensburg Project manages the event, started the market in hopes of fostering community and supporting local businesses.

According to an article in “The Tribune Review,” during the first season of The Night Market, Hickey’s mother passed from a brain aneurysm, and less than a year later, her father passed from colon cancer.

Despite these hardships, she persevered.

“There was a time where I was like, ‘I don’t even know what I’m doing, maybe (I should) just get a real job,” Hickey told the Trib. “And I’m glad I didn’t.”

The Night Market is typically very busy, with a lot of the shops on the street opening their doors for everyone. The vendors range from crafters specializing in things like pierogi pillows to foodie-focused items like herbed butter sticks.

The best part of the Night Market is that they have a little of everything. Discount coupons for college students are sometimes available, and students with a college I.D. can get one free item at select vendors.

Many vendors offer unique cultural foods, ranging from Middle Eastern specialties to empanadas and French fries. One hot sauce vendor’s items are especially hot–they sell out quickly, so make sure to go early. Local farmers are on hand to offer farm-fresh produce.

For those who drive and worry about where to park downtown, the Night Market offers a shuttle from 5:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. from the Greensburg Garden & Civic Center on 951 Old Salem Rd. Greensburg, PA 15601. Seton Hill University also offers a shuttle service from their campus.
The next Greensburg Night Market is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 30. For more information, visit the market’s website.
