A group of Pitt alumni has funded the dismantling of the Life Sciences Building and its replacement, which is planned to be a humanities building.

The new Life Sciences Building has been plagued with problems since its conception, from funding issues that prevented the project from getting started to then preventing the building from being completed.

Most of the funders of this project wish to remain anonymous. However, one of the members gave us his name and statement.

Hugh Mungus says, “I think the idea of a building for science is stupid; we already have enough science. Also, the building is disgustingly ugly; it should have been built with a more classical look, closer to something like Lynch Hall.” The Pitt-Greensburg police are currently seeking Mungus for multiple parking violations.

The project’s estimated cost to dismantle the life science building has not yet been determined, but experts suspect that the project should cost somewhere between $10 to 15 million. That is for the dismantling and replacement of the building.

The main funder, who wishes to remain anonymous, has said, “This is only the beginning. Eventually, we want to fund the complete renovation of the campus. We must reject modern architecture because it sucks and is ugly.”

There is currently no start date for the project.
