This year’s Pitt Fight packed a punch (and a kick, and a throw) for Pitt-Greensburg. Many spectators, who might have been attending their first-ever wrestling match, were amazed to see the wrestlers thrown onto real thumbtacks or hit with garbage cans.

Pitt Fight held its fifth charity wrestling match on March 22. The event was well attended, and one student said, “It was the biggest event on campus he has been to since 2021.”

The event was hosted by Pitt Fight but featured professional wrestlers battling it out in an authentic wrestling ring set up in the gym. Alongside the gym was a table for each wrestler where spectators could meet them after the match and purchase merchandise.

That’s where The Rev was this year’s Pitt Fight champion.

“I was watching pay-per-view wrestling, and I got addicted,” The Rev said. “It all started with a guy named Eddie Guerrero, just how he was able to gravitate to the crowd, lock them in, give them a bunch of energy, and they gave him that energy back; I wanted to be a big part of that.”

Pitt Fight’s event was for charity, with all proceeds donated to the Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity.

“I think it’s cool. A lot of people have really cool jobs, but not a lot of people can say they beat people up for a living and for a good cause,” The Rev said. “I think we all got some things in our life that at some point in time, suck or that we don’t like, and life in general can be stressful, so being able to give a few hours for everyone to come together from different walks of life to just be able to forget about everything that’s happening outside of the arena and just scream, yell, be mad, be happy, cry — whatever they feel, just to be able to let it out and forget about everyday life.”

The crowd that attended the match was electric, everyone seemed to be having a great time.

Olivia Jackson, a biology major, said, “It’s the most fun I’ve had all semester. I’ve never seen anything like this in this area before.”
