Toward the end of last semester, Pitt-Greensburg decided to change its on-campus alcohol policy. The change in the policy was in regard to how much liqueur a student could have on campus. Previously, there was no mention of this type of alcohol in the residential alcohol policy. The policy now states that a student may have one 750 milliliter container of liqueur if it is under 30 alcohol by volume (ABV) and one container that is 375 mL if the alcohol is above 30 ABV.
What prompted the change?
Troy Ross, the director of housing at Pitt-Greensburg, said, “One of the CAs in Robertshaw had talked to him because a resident had asked about liqueurs. There was a question that kind of came through about clarity on where things like Baileys and Kahlua fell on the alcohol policy.”
This question prompted Ross to look closer at the differences between liquor and liqueur, in which he decided that the alcohol policy should be more specific.
The CAs are the ones who have to enforce the new policy, so how do they feel about the recent change?
CA Alice Evdokimova said, “Whenever I had to deal with an alcohol violation that had to do with liqueur, I think I just grouped it with liquor, but if anyone had protested, I wouldn’t know what to say.”
She also said the results of the change in the policy can only be positive, in her opinion.
