The war in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas has now entered a new stage.
Following the terrorist attack on Israel by Hamas on Oct. 7, there have been calls for cease-fires, hostages taken, attacks outside of hospitals, and many other significant events as the war continues to grow.
The war has an impact on both professors and students here on the Pitt-Greensburg campus.
Dr. Melissa Marks, a professor of education at Pitt-Greensburg said, “On a very personal level, it is terrifying because I have two Israeli kids who lived with me for two weeks through an exchange program, who are both on active duty.”
Dr. Marks looks at every perspective in this war.
“You can be wanting to support Palestinian people and still condemn what Hamas did. I want a two-state solution. I condemn killing civilians on both sides,” Dr. Marks said.
Senior Rin Alford hopes that peace is brought to Israel soon.
“To bring peace between them, a cease-fire may work,” Alford said. “An organization called Jewish Voices For Peace is also calling for a cease-fire.”
As of now, an end to this war is not currently in sight.
