Understanding credit can be tough on your own, which is why the Center for Financial Education and Wellness will be hosting a virtual credit seminar on Nov. 13.
Senior Assistant Director of Financial Wellness, Janet McLaughlin, discussed the goal of the seminar.
“It’s to help students understand how credit works and to equip students with tools to use, to build, and maintain their credit,” McLaughlin said. “Many students are exposed to managing credit in college for the first time. It is important they use credit in a smart way and will provide benefits for a lifetime.”
How to build credit and how credit works are important issues that will be discussed during this session’s seminar.
“Using credit can be a terrific way to build credit for a lifetime, but it can also be a detriment if not used wisely.” McLaughlin said.
This seminar is meant to be an introduction to credit. As college students, this is the prime time to start building credit. Having good credit can allow you to do so many things, such as buying a car, renting an apartment, or having lower interest rates. In the end it’s all about saving money.
“When you have a game plan for your money, you may not have to worry and stress. This is why financial wellness is so important.” McLaughlin said.
