As of the fall semester, multiple renovations have been made across the Pitt-Greensburg campus.
A new mailroom and entryways, paved roads, and patched leaky roofs, are just some of the renovations students might notice. Alterations to the campus were made roughly within a 90-day period over the summer.
Joe Bleehash, director of Facilities & Operations, was primarily in charge of overseeing the changes to campus. He says overall he’s pleased with how things have turned out.
“I like seeing people react to the little visual changes,” Bleehash says.
Dr. Robert Gregerson, Pitt-Greensburg president, also feels good about the changes.
“It’s just a beautiful campus,” Dr. Gregerson says. “I really love coming to work here every day.”
The total cost for all renovations was $1.8 million. Money for the renovations to residence halls, or auxiliaries, come from student room and board fees. This money has paid for new roofs for both College Hall and Marshall House.
Funding for changes to academic halls comes from the Education sector of the campus’s General Fund. Renovations like the new sidewalk outside of Chambers Hall and the new mailroom have also been funded internally. Additional renovation funding came from Pitt’s main campus.
Dr. Gregerson says his favorite project was the Chambers Hall sidewalk.
“I was always worried that it was a tripping hazard,” Dr. Gregerson says. “I always worried someone’s grandma would trip and fall.”
Despite an ongoing need for even more renovations, Pitt-Greensburg’s administration is working to keep up.
“Well, we’re always planning ahead and looking at what the greatest needs are for infrastructure on the campus. So it’s part of the planning process,” Dr. Gregerson says. “Unfortunately, things break that you can’t anticipate.”
In the future, Pitt-Greensburg students can expect to see new roofs and possibly a solar energy system on campus, though Dr. Gregerson says, “it doesn’t happen overnight.”
Bleehash says renovations to campus will not cease anytime soon.
“For the most part, it’s like painting the Golden Gate Bridge,” Bleehash says. “You start at one end, get to the other, then go back and start over again.”
