Get ready for a dusk of sizzling aromas, bustling commerce and rousing live music when the Greensburg Night Market returns on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 5:30 – 9 p.m. along South Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Greensburg.

The market will feature over 80 vendors local to the Westmoreland and Allegheny counties, such as Greensburg’s own Cattfeinated Cat Cafe, Wicks and Wax Studio, Steep Mountain Tea Co. and Mz. Jones’ Curio.

Free food vouchers will also be available to Pitt-Greensburg students at a stall on site at the night market, according to assistant director of Student Involvement and the First-Year Experience Haley Hayden.

“I’m hoping that partnering with the Greensburg Night Market will encourage our students to adventure into downtown Greensburg more often and see what it has to offer,” Hayden said.

Each student can receive one voucher valued at around $10. Students will need their Pitt-Greensburg student IDs to claim their vouchers, which will be valid at select vendors.

Chef Greg Andrews from The Pickled Chef, a business started out of a restaurant in the Greensburg Train Station, will be one of the vendors who will get to meet this years’ Pitt-Greensburg community.

“We use markets not just to generate revenue, but to go out and meet people,” Chef Greg says.

Chef Greg owns his business with his wife and mother-in-law and has been vending at the Night Market since 2017.

“The Pickled Chef is an outreach to the community to show off the integrity of local ingredients and authentic recipes, and to utilize local product year round,” Chef Greg says.

In addition to selling preserved goods such as pickled vegetables, sauces, fruit preserves, and raw-fermented kimchi and sauerkraut, The Pickled Chef also offers grilled cheese sandwiches made with fresh local ingredients– all of which can be found at their stall at the Greensburg Night Market.

For those who live with dietary restrictions, food allergies, or intolerance, the Night Market also showcases businesses such as Truly Wize Gluten Free Bakery owned by Chef Carol Weaver, who is on her second season at the market.

“Community markets like the Greensburg Night Market have impacted our growth by opening up new avenues of demographics and driving enthusiastic traffic to our products,” Chef Carol says. “Serving and getting to know our community is so fulfilling.”

Truly Wize features gluten-, egg-, and dairy-free cakes, rolls, pizzas and bread products.

Those over 21 can have their I.D. ready as the Night Market sports stalls from several local wineries and breweries, such as Crooked Creek Distillery, La Vigneta Winery, Salem Spirits Moonshine and more.

To find out more about attending or to apply to be a vendor, visit the Greensburg Night Market website. Upcoming market dates include October 26, November 15, and December 14.

The Greensburg Night Market also provides an attendee FAQ that can be found here. In short, the FAQ suggests leaving the dog at home (aside from certified support dogs), bringing cash and an umbrella with you just in case, and following this parking map of Greensburg.

For anyone interested in vending or learning how local business ownership finds its roots, Chef Greg and Chef Carol offer their personal advice:

“You need to evolve slowly and steadily, and hopefully people will understand your message,” says Chef Greg.

“Have a simple business plan that you can develop as you go,” Chef Carol says. “Be persistent and trust yourself.”
