Join The Olive Branch Association for Jeopardy This Wednesday
by Shannon Grace
On Wednesday, Jan. 28, the Olive Branch Association will be hosting OBA Jeopardy from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Village Hall 118. The questions will quiz you on your knowledge of countries going through humanitarian crises, including Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ukraine. Participants will be divided into groups of five, and there will be a $25, $15, and $10 Amazon gift card given out to the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.
Hadeel Ahemed, senior biology major and poli sci minor, and vice president of OBA, shares the goal of the event.
“It’s an info event where people can come socialize, and for OBA to serve our purpose of spreading awareness of countries that are going through a humanitarian crisis,” says Ahemed, “It’s to familiarize people about what’s going on with these countries. Politically, there’s a lot of corruption going on, people are dying, and there’s famine. It’s something that’s not really spoken about much on campus. So our purpose as a club is to bring that awareness here.”
The questions will include fun facts and general knowledge of the countries mentioned above in a Jeopardy-style game.
“We’re trying to make it more fun and sociable rather than more direct, you don’t want it to be boring, you want it to be more creative,” says Ahemed.
Idriss Ridani, president of OBA, says “it’s a kickoff event for the semester. It’s a gamified event, which tends to be more attractive to people, so it’s like a way to get more involvement with the club.” says Ridani, “It also helps with teaching people about these issues because there are answers to the questions and some people might not know them. And if they didn’t, then after seeing the correct answer, they learned a bit more about the problem because that is the essence of the club.”
There are two upcoming events hosted by OBA next month. There will be a talk about the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday, Feb. 1,0 where Congolese food will be served and a film screening of “1948: Creation Catastrophe” on Feb. 17. Check your emails for more info closer to the event dates.
Come join OBA this Wednesday for a chance to test your knowledge.
