Want to enjoy a good meal near campus while benefiting a good cause? Look no further than the Our Lady of Grace Parish Fish Fry, held on Fridays during Lent. With Catholics being asked to abstain from eating meat on Fridays during Lent, parish fish fries are common.
Fred Francese, a volunteer, states that making sure the fish fry is a success each and every year is very important.
“It has to do with making sure that you get the best fish, french fries, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and pierogies possible,” says Francese.
Francese also said that volunteers are a crucial part of the fish fry as well.
“We ask for volunteers to help for lunch and dinner, sign up for a job as cook, wrapper, cashier, or order taker, there is a meeting about a month before the first fish fry, followed by a training session for new volunteers,” says Francese.
The funds from this year’s fish fry is significant to some church improvements, according to Father Dan Blout, pastor of Our Lady of Grace Parish.
“This is the last fish fry that will help pay for the replacement of our heating and air conditioning unit, with future years being determined by our parish council,” says Blout.
The fish fry is a drive-thru-only event. Lunch is served between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and dinner is served between 4-7 p.m., on all Fridays from Feb. 16 to March 22. Cash and credit cards are accepted.
