Are you looking for a fun and creative way to get involved on campus, build up your leadership skills, and make new friends? The Pitt-Greensburg Residence Life is currently accepting applications for a new Community Assistant for the fall 2024 to spring 2025 semester. You’ll be working alongside a team of 21 other Community Assistants throughout the academic school year, creating interactive programs for your residents, ensuring your residents’ mental and physical well-being, and building an inclusive community. As a Community Assistant, you will be expected to adapt to four pillars — community, engagement, respect, and wellness.
Resident Director Kyle Harper says, “This is my second year as Resident Director, and I was a Community Assistant during undergrad for three years. It’s a great opportunity for people to build relationships and connections. Personally, I met a lot of good friends who I’m still in contact with. I built good connections with my residents and fostered a really nice community. CA’s are creative and it’s fun watching how they interact with their residents and to see their creativity flow.”
Other perks of the job include free room and board provided for the entire academic year and free meal plan options.
Breanna Tomsey, a current Community Assistant, says, “There have been so many unforgettable memories and forever friendships I made because of this job. My first year as a CA, my staff and I were obsessed with making TikToks and would do one most duty nights. Recently, during the training week this past year, we did a staff bonding activity at the Westmoreland County fair, and part of it included a scavenger hunt. It truly was a good time running all around the fairgrounds trying to find certain objects with my staff. I felt like it was the first-time during training we could all be together and have fun.”
Harper recognizes what it takes in order for CA’s to have potential in their positions.
“The kind of qualities we’re looking for in a Community Assistant are communication skills, people who want to build into leadership roles, and teamwork,” says Harper.
Isaac Stephens, who is another current Community Assistant says, “I think someone should want to become a CA if they have some leadership capabilities that they’d like to use, have an empathetic personality, and can handle uncomfortable situations maturely. It’s a highly rewarding job that I’m happy to have.”
Requirements include being a full-time student at Pitt-Greensburg and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 that must be maintained throughout employment. Though Residence Life experience is preferred, it is not required. Other requirements include being within good academic, disciplinary, and financial standing with the school. The deadline for applicants is Sunday, Feb. 4, and interviews will run from Feb. 12-22.
