On June 1, 2023, an era came to an end for me. I graduated from Hempfield Area High School, and received my high school diploma. Gone were the days of early wake ups, running cross country, and everything else that came with high school.

It was now time for me to begin a new challenge here at Pitt-Greensburg.

Going into college, I was excited, but also nervous. I was ready to leave behind the control and drama of high school for the independence and quiet of college.

The college transition has been somewhat easy for me. I am able to finish all of my work on time and still enjoy the college experience. I’m a commuter, so being close to home is also beneficial as well.

My fellow freshman commuter student Andrea Dancu agrees.

“The college transition has been pretty easy, honestly. I live only fifteen minutes away,” Dancu said.

Being a freshman comes with many emotions as well, whether it be jubilance or anxiousness, freshman year is a roller coaster of emotions and feelings.

The Pitt-Greensburg experience can be different for people who are not from the area. Josh Shaedle is a freshman resident student from Philadelphia.

“It’s been interesting,” Shaedle said. “Definitely because it’s an adjustment from high school. (It’s a challenge) being away from home and balancing my free time.”

The transition from high school to college is definitely a manageable one, and can be a great one. That is, if you decide that you truly want to be here, put high school behind you, and give it your all here at Pitt-Greensburg. This is a beautiful campus, and the student body is amazing.
