Editorial: I Still Get Excited for Halloween

Whenever October hits, I feel my excitement rise. Even as an almost 21 year old, the season of fall is when I thrive the most. Especially since Halloween is at the end of the month. I love when I can break out the decorations to decorate my apartment after they’ve been hiding for so long and how it makes the mood for watching Halloween movies better. Nothing beats coming home after a long day, pouring some apple cider and putting on “A Nightmare Before Christmas”.
As I’m getting older, I appreciate more of the aesthetic that Halloween brings to my life. I wear socks that have pumpkins and black socks on them. I wear hand-me-down sweaters from my grandma. I could stare outside for hours and look at all the trees that turn from green to orange, yellow, or red. I enjoy when I can step outside and not drown in a puddle of sweat. It brings me a sense of calmness that nothing else can for some reason. Even though I don’t dress up in costume anymore, I still feel that little kid giddiness lives in me, and I’m glad it still does.
I feel that other people my age get just as excited for this holiday as I do. I know my roommates do. We take the time to make treats and just have fun. We reminisce about what we used to dress up as, it always gives us a good laugh. I dressed up as Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz” for two years in a row. I think if I went for a third year, people would have thought I was too obsessed with the movie, even though my mom knows I definitely am.
The point that I’m trying to get at is that you are someone who enjoys Halloween as an adult, I think it’s a great thing. It’s something that can bring us joy in life and give us that nostalgia that we may need to be reminded of every once in a while. So, Pitt-Greensburg, embrace the spooky season in any way you like and have a great Halloween.
