Looking for free fresh produce? Westmoreland Food Bank hosts a Mobile Food Market, free for all Pitt-Greensburg students.

On Thursday, Oct. 12, the Westmoreland Food Bank Mobile Food Market will be up and running from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Chambers Hall Lawn, near McKenna Hall.

All students, and even just members of the community, are invited to stop by and pick up some fresh produce. Al Thiel, director of student involvement and student center operations, said it’s a good way to bring fresh food to the campus community.

“They’ll be bringing fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, more of those perishable items that we can’t put in the mini food banks that we have on campus,” Thiel said. “We recognize that we’re a little bit of a food desert here at Pitt Greensburg, especially if you don’t have a car, so partnering with the food bank can really help alleviate that for a lot of students.”

Thiel says there are no qualifications for getting the fresh food on Thursday’s event. All you have to do is show your Pitt ID and pick up some food.

Brian Root, assistant director of housing and residence life, said that the food bank wanted to connect with local college students.

“It’s just nice to see the food bank connecting with a population that they don’t often reach,” Root said.

The Mobile Food Market is on the second Thursday of every month, so mark your calendars for Nov. 9 to get even more fresh produce.
